Hawkins Point Partners attended the Year Up leadership breakfast, what they informally refer to as Opportunities and Eggs. We were proud to be an event sponsor. Also, Heather Morris Kyer, Co-founder and CEO of Hawkins Point Partners was a table captain. The breakfast was attended by over 320 people, and the event raised over $350,000 dollars. The Hawkins Point Partners group contributed almost $3000. What a fantastic event and organization.
Year Up empowers low-income young adults to go from poverty to professional careers in a single year. There are many young adults here in Boston that face social and economic challenges. Despite talent and motivation, they lack access to higher education and careers that provide them with a living wage. Providing underserved young adults with the skills, knowledge and experience today’s businesses demand ensures those young adults will begin successful careers and earn a living wage.
“I had the opportunity to meet and talk with a number of students”, says Heather. “I was so impressed with the poise, confidence, and great communications skills that these aspiring young professionals demonstrated. The influence this program has had on these young adults is remarkable. I am grateful to have the opportunity to help, and I am committed to doing my part”.
Nearly two years ago, when we launched Hawkins Point Partners, we embraced Richard Branson’s leadership:
“… Volunteer! If you are an entrepreneur running a startup or small business, now is the time to get started, when you’re forging ties with the community and building a corporate culture that focuses on how your business impacts the planet. Whether you organize your own small event or work on something that’s already happening in your community, such efforts will signal to everyone that you are building a company and a commitment for the long term.”
We are passionate about Year Up and our shared mission to help the opportunity youth in our community.
