Glass, in its most common form, is brittle and transparent, leading us to look through it rather than at it. But when we talk about “glass ceilings,” the substance becomes strikingly noticeable and much harder to break. Societal advancements have poked, prodded, chipped, and fought against the glass ceiling for years. Fortunately, society has made tremendous strides to ensure that it no longer casts its shadow over hard-working women and is finally embracing the importance and power of women in the workplace. But there is still room to universally shatter this increasingly brittle substance.
An Environment Where Gender Equality is Paramount.
As a women-owned business, Hawkins Point is committed to providing our colleagues with the opportunity to thrive in an environment where gender equality is paramount. Launching a dedicated Women’s Leadership Program will be the framework on which we will create a great experience for the women in our professional family, as well as the many female leaders with whom we partner every day.
The Importance of Women’s Leadership Programs
In today’s workforce, leadership roles should not be confined to one gender. As workplace environments continue to evolve, establishing dedicated women’s leadership programs within an organization has become increasingly advantageous to both the individuals involved in the program and the organization itself. In fact, studies suggest that programs such as these can be tremendously influential in terms of bridging the gender gap that has long been divided.
Success is a product of numerous factors. When pursuing success, actively collaborating, to the best of your ability, is necessary for growth in any professional setting. Women in business often fall subject to the idea that climbing the corporate ladder is much more difficult than it should be, when in reality, the number of steps on this ladder is the same for all candidates, regardless of gender. Women’s leadership programs provide a platform for women in business to collaborate with one another; it is a sanctuary for learning, motivating, and sharing strategies that amplify success. But most importantly, it is a place to recognize that, whatever endeavor you may be striving towards, you are not in it alone.
Establishing a women’s leadership program enables women in any organization to network with a group of individuals in which they can confide. The hurdles that one person might be facing are likely to have been overcome—or at least experienced—by others at some point in their professional journeys. When companies provide programs that support women, opportunities for mentorship arise, whether it be for the mentees or the mentors. All are encouraged to provide insight and advice to peers—to have a voice.
As a society, we must continue to stress the importance of gender equality within the workforce. Consideration for leadership roles should not be judged by the gender identification of male or female; it should be determined by the most qualified candidate for the job.
Hawkins Point appreciates the opportunity that we have within our professional circle to ensure that women have a voice and a platform that enables them to achieve success—in any way that they choose to define it.
