Steve Mersky, EVP and Co-founder of Hawkins Point Partners, recently entertained the children of Pathways for Children (www.pw4c.org) by playing guitar and singing to the classes at the Emerson Avenue facility in Gloucester.
“It’s a humbling experience”, says Steve. “All of these children are underprivileged, and many do not have male figures in their lives. It’s interesting to watch them. Some actively listen, others are distracted, and many are totally mesmerized, just staring at me.”
The highlight of the day was the pre-school age children from Room 10. When returning to their classroom after watching and listening to Steve, they each drew a picture of what they saw. When the book of pictures was presented to Steve, he went into the room to thank the kids. They were in circle time and invited Steve to join the circle. “Immediately when I sat on the floor, I was swarmed”, Steve explains. “One child on each knee, three around my neck, they couldn’t get close enough. It is rewarding to make just a small memory for the children.”
