Steve Mersky, President and Co-founder of Hawkins Point recently participated in the career day at Pathways. Steve also serves on the Board of Directors, having previously held Vice Chair and Treasurer positions on the board. The leadership at Pathways organized this session for their School Age Care program. The ages of these children ranged from six to twelve years old. Participants included a woodcarver, a nurse, a navy officer, a civil engineer, a restaurant owner, an owner of a tech company (that’s Steve), a representative from NOAA, our former director of social services, and Sue Todd (CEO of Pathways).
Sue stated, “I never realized just how difficult it is to define what a CEO does in easily understood terms.” One of the kids picked up on the word “chief” as in CEO – and Sue explained, “well….yes, I guess I am sort of like a chief of a big special tribe.”
“It was a very rewarding day, although it was much different that your traditional career day”, says Steve. “These young children are far from thinking about careers, but they were quite interested in technology. When I asked them how they used their computers, the answers were predominately Youtube and games. Just like when my kids were that age.”
